In the first video is a performance by Maighread & Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill. It’s from a series called Anam An Amhráin produced by Cartoon Saloon in conjunction with Sónta Productions for TG4 including 10 animated songs in Irish. With songs animated by artists such as Tomm Moore, Adrien Merigeau, Nora Twomey, Lily Bernard, Fabian Erlinghauser, Ross Stewart and many more. Cúilín Dualach, a previous innovative collaboration between these two companies, garnered a host of national and international awards.
Anam An Amhráin started life in 2010 as a TG4 series in which new life was given to twelve ‘old favourite’ Irish songs by a range of acclaimed singers from different artistic backgrounds (some not known for singing in Irish) under the musical guidance of Iarla Ó Lionáird, and through brand new animations inspired by the songs all by different Cartoon Saloon animators. The production received an IFTA nomination and a Celtic Media Festival nomination for best animation in 2011.
Sisters Maighread and Triona Ní Dhomhnaill have been singing together since they were children, and they have both chosen to make performing Irish music their life’s work: Maighread as a solo singer and Triona as a singer and instrumentalist with the Bothy Band Touchstone, and Nightnoise So it comes as a surprise to discover that the release of Idir an Dá Sholas marks the first time they have recorded together.
Chuaigh mé chun aonaigh Is dhíol mé mo bhó Ar chúig phunta airgid Is ar ghiní bhuí óir Má ólaim an t-airgead Is má bhronnaim an t-ór Ó cad é sin do'n té sin Nach mbaineann sin dó
Má ólaim an t-airgead Is má bhronnaim an t-ór Ó cad é sin do'n té sin Nach mbaineann sin dó
Má théim 'na choille chraobhaigh Cruinniú smeara nó cró A bhaint úllaí de ghéaga Nó a bhuachailleacht bó Má shíním seal uaire Faoi chrann a dhéanamh só Ó cad é sin do'n té sin Nach mbaineann sin dó
Má shíním seal uaire Faoi chrann a dhéanamh só Ó cad é sin do'n té sin Nach mbaineann sin dó
Má théimse chuig airnéal Is rince is spórt Chuig aonach is rásaí 'S gach cruinniú den tsórt Má chím daoine súgach Is má bhím súgach leo Ó cad é sin do'n té sin Nach mbaineann sin dó
Deir daoine go bhfuil mé Gan rath 's gan dóigh Gan earra gan éadach Gan bólacht ná stór Má tá mise i sásta Mó chónaí i gcró Ó cad é sin do'n té sin Nach mbaineann sin dó
I went to the market And traded my cow For five pounds in money And a gold guinea coin If I drank all the money And my gold I did share Since it's no one's concern, Then so no one should care
If I drank all the money And my gold I did share Since it's no one's concern, Then so no one should care
If I go to the green woods Wild berries to store Plucking apples from bowers Or herding the cows If I relax in the shade For an hour or more Since it's no one's concern, Then so no one should care
If I relax in the shade For an hour or more Since it's no one's concern, Then so no one should care
If I go to the céilís, To dances or sports Attend markets and races And events of that sort If I see people merry And their merriment share Since it's no one's concern, Then so no one should care
People are saying I'm a cad gone astray Without goods or possessions, No cow and no care If it's my own desire To live in a craw Since it's no one's concern, Then so no one should care
