Líadán are a Traditional Irish music band. From liadan.ie: Blending together their rich musical backgrounds, these six talented young ladies create a fresh and exciting sound that explores both traditional and new material. From Galway and Limerick this inspiring all-female band comprises of six members: Síle Denvir, harpist; Deirdre Chawke, piano accordion; Elaine Cormican, whistles. Valerie Casey and Claire Dolan, fiddles; Catherine Clohessy, flute.
The uniqueness of Líadan lies in the deeply traditional essence of their music and in each band member’s ability to shine both instrumentally and vocally. Líadan’s stage presence exudes a group personality that is both vibrant and engaging. Their tune playing features striking string and reed rhythms and accompaniments, while always keeping the melody central to their arrangements. Coupled with that, the members are highly talented vocalists, displaying an astounding ability to move audiences with their settings of traditional and sean-nós songs in the Gaelic and English language, using acapella, harmonies and instrumental arrangements.
Líadan’s musical and vocal prowess, their ability to move effortlessly between Irish and English language song, and the traditionally rooted core of their music makes them a force to be reckoned within the Irish traditional band stakes.
The lyrics below don’t exactly match the Líadán version in the video. Apologies in advance for the machine translation, I’ll translate this properly when I get the time.
Molaim sú an ghráin eorna go deo deo 'gus a choíche Nach mairg nach mbíonn tóir ar Rí Seoirse ar a dhéanamh Seán Ford a bheith ina ghiúistis, is chomhairleodh na daoine Mar is chuir mise ag foghlaim le ócam a spíonadh
Is randa dideloram 'sé ócam an phríosúin Go bhfága sú an ghráin eorna na hÓglaigh dá spíonadh
Is osclaíodh dom an stór a raibh ócam thar maoil ann Is thug mé lán mo ghabhlach liom, mo dhóthain go ceann míosa, Is nach mise a bhain gáire as an ngarda a bhí i mo thimpeall Nuair a d'fhiafraigh mé den cheannfort cé air ar fhás an fianach
Céard a deir tú le Mac Uí Lochlainn a chuaigh a chodladh dó go suaimhneach, Nuair a d'ionsaigh na luchain a chuid ícaim san oíche. Is maidin lá arna mhárach, bhí an ceannfort á inseacht ó, a dhiabhail, a deir an gobharnóir, ''tá an diabhail uilig déanta.''
Is nach mise a bhíonn go brónach gach Domhnach is lá saoire, 'mo sheasamh amuigh sa ghairdín, istigh i bhfáinne is mé ag gabhail timpeall Go dtagann ó mo shúile sruth deor nuair a smaoinim Gur olc an obair Domhnaigh bheith i gcónaí ar an gcaoi seo
Bhí mise maidin shamhraidh is mo leaba déanta síos agam Nuair a chonaic mé an ceannfort 's é ag gluaiseacht go dtí mé. ''Is b'in é an chaoi a bhfuil tusa, is an méid atá le dnamh? do dhá lámh i do phóca is ócam le spíonadh?''
Is randa dideloram 'sé ócam an phríosúin Is nach bhfága sú an ghráin eorna na hÓglaigh dá spíonadh

I opened the store which had ócam overflowing I gave a lot my I ghabhlach, enough for a month, I was laughing from the guard who was around me When I asked the superintendent how it grew evident
What you say Mac O'Loughlin went to sleep peacefully, When attacked luchain part ícaim night. The next morning, the superintendent was telling , pounced, says the governor,'' has all the devil.''
'm Not sad that every Sunday is a holiday, My position out there in the garden, inside a ring I'm going around That flow from my eyes tear when I think That work Sundays always be resented this way
I was a summer morning I made my bed down When I saw the superintendent 's moving to me. '' And that was how you, what dnamh? your hands in your pocket ócam exhaustion?''
