In the video is a recording by sean-nós singer Lasairfhíona Ní Chonaola and her brother MacDara Ó Conaola. They are native Irish speakers from Inis Oír and learnt many original songs from their family, thus continuing the rich singing tradition of the Aran Islands.
Lasairfhíona’s début album An Raicín Álainn (pronounced An Rackeen Ah-lyn), was launched in 2002 at the Festival Interceltique in Lorient, Brittany. It was selected by Hot Press music magazine as one of the best folk albums of 2002. It was described by fRoots magazine as “one of the most sumptous traditional albums to have emerged for some time.”
MacDara Ó Conaola is Lasairfhíona’s brother and makes his début on this CD, singing the delightful lilting. He is also the photographer for An Raicín Álainn CD. MacDara is a keen sean-nós singer and is currently working on his own album.
